Better With Age

Birthday celebrationsA perfect birthday. That’s the only way I can describe it.

On Saturday before my birthday, I had my family and Tracy come over for dinner. We shared a simple meal and I got to show my progress at playing a guitar. Tracy left when we put the kids to bed, but my family stuck around, which surprised me. My parents aren’t the type to “hang out,” well, at least, not my mom. It was great to sit down as a family and chew the fat. Everyone even got massages from everyone else.

On Sunday, we went to church and enjoyed the afternoon with Jenni’s parents. We sang songs while I strummed the guitar. A very peaceful and relaxing evening must have followed because I don’t remember any of it.

On Monday, my birthday-day, we took the kids to Chuck E Cheese and played games for two hours. There was hardly anyone there on a Monday morning. Even Bruce played a game where he helped bounce balls into a pig’s mouth. It was nostalgic for me and fresh to see my kids so excited.

We shared a quick lunch before leaving them over at a friends’ house for the afternoon so Jenni and I could enjoy a few hours together. Then I was surprised that Jenni arranged a babysitter at our house to feed the kids dinner while we ate at Swagath Indian food. We topped off the evening by playing Castle Crashers with Jack.

If that wasn’t enough, Jenni took on the kids while I enjoyed a LAN party with the guys at Jack’s place the following Saturday. We had six people to team up for a Mann vs. Machine cooperative game in Team Fortress 2. We all had a great time and I got to chat with Clark and Jack until 2am.

I’m already looking forward to my next birthday. Now I know why my kids love their birthdays. We love celebrating.
